Duo mixes hip-hop with financial education at Rock the Fed

A concert is not an unusual setting to see an audience of teens enthusiastically cheering and moving with the music — even at the Federal Reserve Bank of Kansas City.


As concert venues go, this wasn't Red Rocks in Colorado or the Hollywood Bowl. Not by any creative stretch of the imagination.

Nevertheless, a large conference room at the Federal Reserve Bank of Kansas City transformed into the perfect setting recently for a rocking 90-minute performance by The Reminders, two hip-hop artists that had many in the packed room of about 300 high school students screaming, singing, clapping, dancing in the aisles and asking good questions about money.

Combining hip hop with financial education makes something like money management feel exciting instead of boring. It’s clear that events like this really meet students where they are and help them relate to important concepts in a way that sticks with them, not just another lecture.
